2000-2004

HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY

BBA Business Administration/Commerce & Minor in Geography

2001-2003

CREW MEMBER – RUBY SAILING, SF

Cut my teeth learning to sail open waters while working on the Ruby, an ocean-going charter vessel.

2003

GRADUATE – HAWAII MARITIME

Obtained 100 Ton Masters Commercial Captain License

2003-2004

CAPTAIN – THE COHO

Earned my seaworthiness on an expedition sail with a Pearson Triton vessel from San Francisco to Tahiti, where my lifelong environmentalism awoke.

2005-2007

EXPLORER – WORLD

2007-2010

CAPTAIN, DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKER
– PACIFIC OCEAN EXPEDITION

Charted a course sailing from Hawaii, to Tahiti, Thailand, and Indonesia to document environmental impacts for climate justice action. Witnessed first-hand the traumatic effects that conventional fuel production from offshore oil rigs have on the ocean and atmosphere. This eye-opening experience laid the foundation for future research on how to improve chemical engineering standards, fuel production and industrial solutions.

2011-2013

RESEARCHER – MURUROA E TATOU & IFREMER

As part of the human and environmental justice research collective, Mururoa e Tatou, in liaison with Ifremer (French National Institute for Ocean Science and Ocean Research), I helped analyze, understand and expose the human and environmental impacts of French nuclear testing in the Pacific.

We analyzed French military documents and science studies, maps, radiologic, meteorologic, medical data and reports; conducted water, geological, flora and fauna surveys with isotope testing and chemical analyses; and carried out dozens of interviews with scientists and island inhabitants.

Results revealed the radioactive fallout spread to be far greater than officially acknowledged. Our work contributed to ongoing human-environmental justice efforts in Tahiti.

2013-2015

MARINE RESEARCH VESSEL CAPTAIN
– HANALEI RIVER HERITAGE FOUNDATION

Captained research vessels for leading marine biologist Dr.Terry Lilley and others with the US Geological Survey to study the impact of Black Band disease on coral reef degradation and monitor ocean health.

2015-Present

FOUNDER & DIRECTOR
– GLOBAL MANA FOUNDATION

This environmental media and education engine was built to accelerate solutions for global sustainability: regenerative agriculture, waste-to-energy technologies, new sustainable materials and products, and digital platforms to reduce global carbon emissions. In its 7 years, the nonprofit foundation has proudly supported numerous high-level climate workshops, global conferences, awareness campaigns, and sustainable product innovations.

2016-2018

PROJECT DEVELOPER
– WORLDWATER
& SOLAR TECHNOLOGIES

Documented and developed global use-case scenarios for solar powered water collection and purification systems. This effort helped expand and create new sustainable tools for agriculture, water management and economic development.

2016-2019

FOUNDER – WAYTUIT INC.

This Silicon Valley startup focused on improving accessibility for all in our digital technologies and built environment. Multimodal wayfinding technologies empower those who are visually, physically or mentally impaired. This venture produced novel bluetooth beacon space-mapping technology and wearables that help people better access our world.

2017

MEDIA DIRECTOR  – IUCN OCEANIA,
IUCN WORLD CONSERVATION CONGRESS

Directed a team to produce multimedia series on behalf of IUCN Oceania – capturing the vivid stories and voices on Pacific ecosystem issues, community initiatives, and resource management strategies for climate action. Interviews with international leaders in conservation revealed a wealth of innovative solutions needed for urgent environmental action.

2017

PRODUCER – FILM: “CARBON NEGATIVE”

Documentary featuring Nobel Prize winning economist and Global Thermostat founder, Graciela Chichilnisky, explores the potential of direct air capture technology for solving our CO2 and climate crisis.  The film won the 2018 Pele Award.

2017-Present

FOUNDER & CEO – PROJECTS FOR GOOD

Social good platform with a complete project support ecosystem – from funding, to campaigns, execution. The digital platform connects service providers to project financing, media support, human resources and more. PFG is now a donor-advised fund distribution engine.

2018-Present

BOARD MEMBER – AMERICAN
RENEWABLE ENERGY INSTITUTE

Joined a distinguished board of members to advise and advance rapid implementation of renewable energy and resource efficient solutions.

2018-2019

RESEARCH FELLOW – WILEY RHODES,
ONE STEP IN FOUNDATION

Conducted an independent study under the mentorship of Wiley Rhodes, world-leading engineer in natural gas and hydrocarbon technologies, focused on discovering ways to eliminate emissions from oil & gas production.

Our collaboration established a gas well fracking rig dedicated solely to developing new industrial processes that capture harmful methane and hydrocarbon emissions to convert them into eco-safe energy products, like blue hydrogen.

2019-Present

FOUNDER & CEO – YOU RIP

Empowering athletes with a patented, user-generated media platform for video social sharing, athletic challenges, and sports sponsorship. The dedicated platform lets videographers and athletes promote their skills and sportsmanship, and participate in global challenges in real-time. Specially-designed algorithms pull video flows based on learned user preferences, and participation levels. The innovation of “stinger ads” provide new revenue channels for athletes.

2019-Present

FOUNDER & DIRECTOR – ECOMANA TAHITI

This environmental-energy solutions driver provides advice, analyses and assistance to carry out studies and executes services in the field of renewable energy production and environment protection. We focus particularly on all operations aimed at reducing impacts of human activities on the environment while boosting economic livelihood.

2019&2020

SPONSOR – DAC CLIMATE MOBILIZATION SUMMITS I & II, ELK COAST INSTITUTE

This cross-sector summit focused on the critical role that direct air capture technology can play in addressing not just climate change, but creating a far more sustainable and equitable economic foundation for the future.

The multi day summits reframed DAC technology to advance scientific understanding, at depth, the necessary steps in our transition away from fossil fuels. Participants included earth and atmospheric scientists, biologists, engineers, impact investors, and innovators focused on building a clean economy from carbon capture technologies.

2021

SPONSOR – ENERGY EQUITY
SUMMIT, ELK COAST INSTITUTE

This cross-industry summit featuring two days of moderated interactive discussions to develop a radically accelerated Energy Equity plan. The co-creation, results-focused dialogues established climate action as an opportunity to transition to a clean and abundant energy future of true global equity. Working groups were composed of leaders from technology, business, policy, finance, communications, and civil society.

Dedicated to powering industries and communities with nu carbon products, processing and smart systems solutions.

2021

SPONSOR – STANFORD
CONFERENCE FOR DAC INNOVATIONS

In collaboration with Prof. Paul David and world-leading economist Graciela Chichilnisky, this first-ever DAC conference at Stanford University explored the practical cross-industry uses for the carbon from direct air capture technologies.

2019-2022

PROJECT DEVELOPER – MANA SOLAR
& TAHITI RENEWABLES

Developed and directed a successful growth venture with
Mana Solar & Tahiti Renewables to realize Tahiti’s first-ever solar power plant – with 10% of the island nation’s electricity now being produced by this site.

Directed this renewable energy project through multi-stages of R&D, feasibility, engineering and site studies, permits and approvals, construction and commissioning. In the process, we developed a policy proposal that passed into law the intertie of solar battery electric grid (2020).

With thorough financial risk assessment and oversight plans, we secured 22M in funding and distinguished partnerships, including Shell Energy Pacific, ushering in a new era of power production that meets the demands of reducing global GHG emissions.
